CRIMINAL injustice

Please, if you are an artist or crafter and naively think that copyrighting your work will protect you from the Big Bad Wolf, go and check out this : http://www.johntunger.com/legal-defense-fund.html

John T Unger is being SUED by the company that ripped off HIS designs!!!! It beggars belief but something similar happened to me a few years back so I know pretty much how he feels right now. In my case it was theft of my original idea whereas with him it's actually his designs for his entire range of products. In his case, he may have to give up his hard fought for business altogether if this company wins in court. Even if we can't help him financially we should all give him our support as it could happen to any one of us.

WOW! This is horrible. I truly hope Mr. Unger prevails. I am really shocked that this could happen. Thanks for the enlightening post Yve!

That's what is so scary about posting things online...I am always worried that someone will take an idea an run with it. Frustrating to say the least!

That's awful...but I know it happens a lot. I hope Mr. Unger has some good attorneys...he'll need them. However, if you're fighting a large company/corporation, you're pretty much sacked!! Happened to a friend of mine...now even every time she breaths, that's copyrighted!! LOL

How does one copyright things? I went to the government site and I still am unsure how to make it all "legal". Oy!

I think your copyright laws are different in the States, in the UK, for instance, a lot of the stuff I see used for Altered Art on the internet suggests that US Copyright laws are a lot less rigid than in the UK... and as for that confounded "orphaned works" thing they're trying to push through!!! Ggggrrrr!

This is crazy!! I was just thinking the other day if there is really a good way to protect my own art. It always seems like there is SOME way that SOMEONE can get by and steal something. I dislike it and it's not right.

I think we just live in a lazy world where people want to make money but put in no effort - so they just pinch the ideas of the talented and industrious, sadly.

Please read both sides of this story before you send anyone money! I was wishing I had money to help the poor, impoverished artist. I was so angry reading Mr. Unger's side that I went looking for this horrid "manufacturer" that was doing him wrong. Hey, guess what? It is just another guy making the same type of fire pit and his operation is smaller than Unger's. There are some pretty libelous claims made on Mr. Unger's part and he is very disingenuous in some of his writing. Although the suit was filed by the other man, Unger is the one who initiated it. Check it out before you take sides. What angered me the most was Unger's claims that this was a big manufacturer trying to screw poor him. I really was all ready to blast this company that was doing this. Unger is not being honest! If you are at all interested check it out a little more and get both sides. http://firepitart.blogspot.com/
